Sony : Japanese manufacturer of all kinds of audio and video equipment. Anecdotal evidence is that the name derives from the French word for sound -“son” - to which was added the Y - as it gave a “happy, sunny” image. Manufactured mics since the early 50s with the C37A condenser.
