Welcome to the Image:Ips-45-trans.gif Compendium of Audio Terms and References

This Compendium is based on the Portland Companion compiled by Antony Askew, IBS member 001, in the 1980s. It was largely historical and BBC orientated, reflecting as it did Antony's personal interests, but nevertheless it formed the basis of a valuable record of the development of audio and of the early days of broadcasting. Whilst maintaining most of the orginal content, some updating has taken place, with links to external sites where appropriate.

Any entries of a technical nature should be regarded as based on the knowledge and practice pertaining to the 1980s and 1990s, when most of the entries were compiled. For current information about technical matters, operational practices etc. please refer to the IPS FAQs.

For further information about this Compendium, and a short User's Guide, see About IPS-Compendium

Acknowledgements for the original Compendium.
