Freelance agreement between BBC and BECTU

Posted 20/04/2010

After long negotiation an enabling recognition agreement was signed on 1 April 2010 between the BBC and BECTU which recognises BECTU as the appropriate union for the negotiation of pay, hours and holiday for freelance workers (in categories of work where at least 35% of workers are BECTU members).

As part of this agreement a Freelance National Council is being set up which will consist of representatives of BECTU and the BBC. This body will deal with national issues which are of importance to both the BBC and the freelance community. It will also be the body that local disputes are referred to for resolution.

Negotiations for Sound categories should be completed by November 2010.
